Ship Arrival
Meet your guide in the charming township of Lyttelton and board your transportation for an unforgettable sightseeing tour. Travel through the inner bays of Lyttelton Harbour, a natural harbor formed within an extinct volcanic crater, passing by Governors Bay before ascending Dyers Pass to the Sign of the Kiwi. Visit the Sign of the Takahe
Continue on to the Sign of the Takahe, a Scottish-style castle with a scenic viewing platform offering magnificent views over Christchurch, Pegasus Bay, the Canterbury Plains, and the snow-capped Southern Alps. A gentle 5-minute walk will bring you to the viewing platform.
Mona Vale Gardens
Next, head to Mona Vale, a stately home with beautiful gardens. On your way, pass through the hillside suburb of Cashmere and the exclusive residential areas of Fendalton. At Mona Vale, stroll through the grounds following the Avon River, which forms one of the property’s boundaries. Your guide will meet you at the rear gate after you’ve had time to explore the area.
Explore Christchurch City
After visiting Mona Vale, head to Christchurch’s central city, which was severely impacted by the February 2011 earthquake. Your guide will share the history of the city and explain the ongoing rebuilding efforts. You’ll see firsthand the damage caused by the earthquake, as well as the impressive reconstruction in progress. The city tour will conclude at Cathedral Square, where you’ll have time to explore on foot and take in great photo opportunities.
Return to Lyttelton
After your city exploration, travel back to Lyttelton via the Eastern Suburbs, passing the estuary and Sumner Beach with its golden sands and views of the Pacific Ocean. From Sumner, head towards Evans Pass, which had been closed for more than seven years following the 2011 earthquake due to a cliff collapse. Stop at a viewing platform along Evans Pass to enjoy stunning views of the harbor, the Timeball Station, and the southern bays.
Return to Port
At the end of this incredible sightseeing tour, you’ll return to Lyttelton township, where a shuttle will transfer you back to your cruise ship.
