FULL ITINERARY
Ship Arrival at Miyako Port
Upon your cruise ship’s arrival at Miyako Port, meet your English-speaking guide holding a welcome board at the designated pick-up point. Board your private air-conditioned car or coach and begin this Miyako shore excursion through the dramatic landscapes and remarkable history of the Sanriku Coast.
Tsunami Remains Taro Kanko Hotel
Begin with a visit to the Taro Kanko Hotel, a preserved tsunami heritage site that bears witness to the devastating Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami of March 2011.
See the damaged structure preserved as a memorial and learn how the disaster affected the Taro district and surrounding coastal communities. The site provides a meaningful opportunity to understand the destructive power of the tsunami and the importance of disaster preparedness.
*Exterior viewing is generally accessible, while entry inside the building requires an advance-arranged disaster prevention guided tour.
Kitayamazaki Cliffs
Continue north to the spectacular Kitayamazaki Cliffs, one of the most dramatic coastal landscapes along the Sanriku Coast. Towering cliffs rise approximately 200 metres above the Pacific Ocean and extend for several kilometres along the rugged shoreline.
Enjoy panoramic views from the observation area, where jagged rock formations, sea caves and forested cliffs create an impressive natural panorama. The main observation deck is easily accessible, while additional viewpoints may require more walking and steps.
Ryusendo Cave
Explore Ryusendo Cave, a remarkable limestone cave known for its clear underground lakes and dramatic rock formations. Follow the illuminated pathway through the cavern while admiring stalactites, limestone walls and the striking blue waters hidden beneath the ground.
The cave remains cool throughout the year, and the walking route includes numerous steps as well as damp and potentially slippery surfaces. Comfortable non-slip walking shoes and a light jacket are recommended.
Return to Miyako Port
After completing your visit to Ryusendo Cave, meet your guide and driver for the journey back to Miyako Port. The return transfer will be arranged according to local traffic conditions and your cruise ship’s departure schedule, allowing sufficient time to reboard the vessel. Thank you for traveling with Shore Excursions Asia!
Please note that the timing and order of the itinerary may be adjusted according to weather, attraction operations, traffic, local conditions and the ship’s docking schedule.
