Ferry to Maria Island
Board a comfortable ferry for the approximately 30-minute cruise across the water to Maria Island National Park, often referred to as Tasmania’s “Noah’s Ark” because of its incredible wildlife population.
Explore Maria Island National Park
Maria Island is a protected natural reserve where no vehicles are allowed, preserving its pristine landscapes and peaceful atmosphere. Walking paths lead across rolling hills, historic ruins, and dramatic coastal scenery.
Your guide will tailor the walk to suit your interests, whether exploring the spectacular Painted Cliffs, enjoying panoramic views of the island, or searching for wildlife. The island is famous for its abundance of native animals including wombats, wallabies, pademelons, echidnas, and Tasmanian devils.
Convict Heritage Sites
Maria Island also has a fascinating history as a 19th-century penal settlement. During your visit, your guide will introduce the remains of several convict buildings dating back to the 1820s and explain the island’s important role in Tasmania’s colonial history.
