FULL ITINERARY
Meet Your Guide at Port
Welcome to the Queen Charlotte Sounds, also known as Totaranui, the principal sound of the Marlborough Sounds. After a short walk from the port to the marina, you will meet your skipper and board your comfortable cruise vessel.
Cruise Across Queen Charlotte Sounds
Departing Picton, cruise across the main reach of the Queen Charlotte Sounds. Along the way, enjoy sweeping views of sea-drowned valleys, calm waterways, and forested hillsides while learning about the area’s history, including its naming by Captain James Cook in honor of Queen Charlotte.
Double Cove Exploration
Arrive at Double Cove, a sheltered and picturesque bay known for its holiday homes, seabirds, and abundant marine life. Cruise slowly around the cove, spotting cormorants and other wildlife while admiring waterfront properties nestled along the shoreline.
Double Cove is a prohibited fishing zone, allowing fish populations to thrive. Look into the clear waters to see tame blue cod, herring, mullet, and the ever-curious mallard ducks that frequent the area.
Discovery Cruise Through Regenerating Forests
Leaving Double Cove, continue on a scenic discovery cruise through surrounding waters bordered by regenerating beech forests. This portion of the journey showcases some of the most beautiful and tranquil scenery in the Marlborough Sounds, ideal for photography and quiet appreciation of nature.
Return to Picton
Your skipper will happily answer questions throughout the cruise before returning you to Picton in plenty of time to rejoin your cruise ship.
