FULL ITINERARY
Your Miyako shore excursion begins with pick-up at the port, followed by a journey to Chusonji Temple, the first highlight of the day. Founded in 850, this historic temple complex has undergone many transformations over the centuries, with only two original structures remaining today. The most renowned is Konjikido Hall, an exquisite golden pavilion that continues to captivate visitors. Nearby, Kyozo Hall preserves valuable Buddhist scriptures and significant religious artifacts, offering insight into the temple’s spiritual legacy.
The tour then continues to Motsuji Temple Gardens. Once an expansive temple complex, Motsuji has evolved into a beautifully preserved Pure Land garden. Designed in the refined Heian-period style, the grounds feature a large central pond encircled by a peaceful walking path. As you stroll through the garden, you will also visit Hondo Hall and Kaizando, both of which display important historical and cultural treasures.
Your final stop is Takkoku no Iwaya, a temple dramatically set against a cliffside. Built discreetly during periods of conflict involving the indigenous Emishi people, this unique site is reached via a short walk through forested paths. Take time to explore the temple halls, enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, and appreciate the deep historical and spiritual significance of the location. After the visit, return to the port in time for your next departure.
