Driver will transfer you to Hirado Castle standing on a hill serving as the guardian of Hirado Port and Hirado Strait. Was built in 1599 and then was destroyed in the wartime by the Lord who had decided to construct it, the new castle was reconstructed right on the original land. Nowadays, Hirado Castle attracts visitors with its five-story and classic architecture revealed in pure white color.
Then, head to St. Francis Xavier Memorial Church – a worshiping place for Catholic followers in Hirado city. From the outside, the church looks like a palace of Disney Princess with many tower-shaped tops. The spotlight of this church belongs to the statue of St. Francis built to honor his visit in 1550. Take a stroll down the street and enjoy the spectacular view over Japanese temples and the Catholic Church which creates one of the most exotic views in Kyushu Prefecture.
After that, visit the Matsuura Historical Museum formerly being the residence of Matsuura clan. Today, the museum is home to a plenty of ancient items and artifacts providing the chance to get a glimpse of the history of this island. Men can dress up like a samurai and women are beautifully covered by Japanese kimonos, together enjoy the old-tasted green tea and pure sweet flavor in a wooden teahouse while admiring the harmony played by birds and bamboo leaves outside.
A short drive will transfer you to the Yumihari Tower where you will enjoy the spectacular views over the famous 99 islands of Kujukushima, the port of Sasebo where your ship docking, and also the downtown with various traditional Japanese houses.
However, the most famous observatory in Hirado city is Tenkaiho which is also the last spot of your Sasebo shore excursion. Climb to the top and you can find it worth your effort. The view is fantastic and unforgettable!
