Badaling Great Wall

Located about 70 km away from Beijing, Badaling Great Wall was built in 1505 Ming dynasties. Badaling situated in strategic location for the defense because Beijing is located north of the Juyongguan Pass, the enemy could cross the pass and attract Beijing if Badaling line was lost. Stretching about 12 km with 43 with 43 watch tower with an attitude over 1000m, the wall is tortuous like a mystical dragon winding along steep mountain ranges.

Today the wall is opened to public with about 3.7km in length include 16 watchtower restored. The structure of the wall is mainly huge bar-stones and bricks combining with tampering mud and small stone making the wall very strong and firm. The internal width is about 6 m and the holes on the wall allow the soldiers to shot enemy with arrows, the wall is designed as a military fortification. The great wall is a priceless cultural heritage of humanity. It was recognized as Cultural World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987 becoming one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Beijing.
