Port Pickup & Scenic Drive to Kamakura

Kotoku-in Temple & The Great Buddha
Begin your Kamakura shore excursion at Kotoku-in Temple, home to the famous Great Buddha, or Daibutsu. Cast in bronze and seated in a peaceful meditative pose, this remarkable statue stands 13.35 meters high including its base and weighs approximately 850 tonnes.
As one of Japan’s most iconic bronze Buddha statues, the Great Buddha is considered the highlight of Kotoku-in Temple and remains the only Buddha statue in Kamakura designated as a National Treasure. Your guide will share the stories behind this treasured landmark and its lasting importance in Japanese Buddhist culture.

Komachi-dori Shopping Street

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine
Continue to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, the most important Shinto shrine in Kamakura. Founded by the Minamoto clan, this historic shrine has deep connections with Japan’s samurai culture and remains one of the city’s most meaningful spiritual sites. Explore the spacious grounds, admire the traditional architecture, and learn more about Shinto customs, local rituals, and the shrine’s role in Kamakura’s history.

Note: Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine may not be suitable for wheelchair users due to numerous stairs and steep terrain. The main shrine area includes large staircases, while only some outer areas are accessible.

Your final sightseeing stop is Hokokuji Temple, a peaceful Zen temple best known for its beautiful bamboo grove. Walk through the quiet pathways surrounded by thousands of slender bamboo stalks, creating a calm and almost timeless atmosphere.
Guests may also choose to enjoy traditional Japanese matcha tea and sweets at the temple tea house. This experience is optional and at personal expense.

Return to Tokyo Port
