Full Itinerary
From the sacred shores of Miyajima to Hiroshima’s landmarks of remembrance, explore the highlights of your time ashore.
A Closer Look at Hiroshima & Miyajima
Explore the island’s sacred heritage and Hiroshima’s poignant landmarks through a thoughtfully paced excursion.
Meet Your Guide at the Cruise Port
Meet your licensed English-speaking guide at Hiroshima cruise port before setting off by comfortable chartered vehicle toward Miyajimaguchi. As part of our Hiroshima shore excursions, this experience is arranged by Shore Excursions Asia to combine Miyajima's cultural heritage with the city's important memorial landmarks.
The excursion combines two different sides of Hiroshima: the peaceful coastal setting of Miyajima and the city's places of remembrance.
Miyajima Ferry Crossing
At Miyajimaguchi, board the ferry to Miyajima. As the island comes into view, enjoy views across the Seto Inland Sea and the wooded hills beyond.
The ferry is part of the experience, providing a scenic transition from the mainland to one of Japan’s most celebrated sacred islands.
Itsukushima Shrine & the Floating Torii
Explore Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its graceful buildings positioned above the tidal shoreline and its famous red torii gate.
The appearance of the gate changes with the tides. At high tide, it seems to float on the water; at low tide, more of the surrounding seabed may be visible. Your guide introduces the significance of this remarkable Shinto shrine and its island setting.
Peace Memorial Park & Museum
Return to Hiroshima for a visit to Peace Memorial Park, a landscaped space dedicated to those who lost their lives in the atomic bombing and to the hope for lasting peace.
At the Peace Memorial Museum, learn about the events of August 6, 1945, the consequences for the city and its residents, and the importance of preserving personal testimonies. Some exhibits contain emotionally difficult historical material.
A-Bomb Dome & Children’s Peace Monument
Walk around the A-Bomb Dome, the preserved remains of the former Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall. Its skeletal structure stands as one of Hiroshima’s most recognizable symbols of remembrance.
Nearby, the Children’s Peace Monument honors children affected by the bombing. It is a place for a quiet moment of reflection before meeting your vehicle for the journey back to the cruise port, in accordance with your ship’s departure arrangements.
