We are talking about the world smallest active volcano in the world, but don’t judge a book through its cover. In the past, there had been several explosions in this area which cause tremendous damage for people. The record from 16th century has shown over 30 eruption of Taal Volcano in total with approximate 5000 death people. The biggest eruption in 1911, may be the most disastrous in the world history has killed over 1300 people and the ash of the explosion had flied to Manila which is 60 kilometers away to the North. Taal Volcano has been listed into the list of Decade Volcano, the list of the most dangerous volcano in the world.

If we just mention about Taal Volcano and its super power, no one will be interested in visiting the mountain. The interesting feature is its geological formation. The mountain is situated in Taal Lake, large freshwater lake in Philippines and inside Volcano Mountain, there is a small lake called Crater Lake. If you want to visit Taal Volcano, we will have to take a 20-minute boat to reach Volcano Island, which does not relate to a visit to a volcano as you normally think about. (Although the idea to visit an active volcano is a little bit crazy 😉 The fact that lake is beautiful with the unusual formation is something that we can’t deny. Especially, when see the overall picture from the highest peak in People’s Park in the Sky, everything is so wonderful.

When the volcano is in normal condition, it is a perfect spot for hiking and exercising. The geography is a little rough but not too hard for hiking. With the heat coming from 47 craters and 35 volcanic cones, the heat is everywhere in the mountain. The way to visit Mt Tabaro is quite rough, therefore, you can choose either getting on a horse’s back or go by feet. From Mt Tabaro, there is a trail leading down to the crater lake. Tourists can notice that the water in crater lake is a little but orange due to the fact that it is a diluted form of sulphuric acid with high concentration of boron, magnesium, aluminium and sodium in salt form.
Mountain and water is the best combination of all time. The trip to an active volcano, Taal Volcano is not scary as you might think about. Moreover, in Taal Lake, you are able to see Tawilis, a special fish living in the lake. Tawilis is the only freshwater sardines in the world and can only be found in Philippines only.
